  • Primary literature usually refers to an original account of a research study, most often published as an article in a peer-reviewed journal (subject experts determine whether a submitted manuscript meets scholarly criteria for publication)
  • Secondary literature analyzes and summarizes the primary literature, usually in the form of review articles or books intended for scientists
  • Tertiary literature usually refers to overviews found in encyclopedias, handbooks, or magazines written for a more general audience

Authentication, ID, & Barcode Basics

► For off-campus authentication to research databases and more, use your UHCL username (e.g., jonest1234) and password.

► Use your UHCL ID card to borrow books and other materials.

► Use your library barcode number ("200" followed by your UHCL ID number) to access your Library Catalog account (renew items online, add items to lists, etc.).
