Database Access: Troubleshooting

First Steps

After completing each step, try again to access a database. If not successful, go on to the next step.

  1. Shut down your computer and then turn it back on.

2. Clear Browser Cache

Chrome:

  1. Click the Customize icon on the top right of the window
  2. Mouse over Tools and then click Clear browsing data
    • Set the time range to the beginning of time
    • Make sure that Clear browsing history, Clear download history, Empty the cache, and Delete cookies are checked
    • Click the Clear browsing data button

Firefox:

  1. Click the Firefox button on the top left of the window
  2. Open the History menu by mousing over History and then click Clear Recent History
  3. Click the arrow button next to Details
    • Make sure that Browsing & Download history, cookies, and cache are checked
    • Set the time range to Everything
    • Click the Clear Now button

 IE 9 and later:

  1. Click the gear icon at top right
  2. Click Safety and then click  Delete browsing history....
  3. Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data
  4. Check both Temporary Internet Files and Cookies
  5. Click Delete

You will get a confirmation at the bottom of the window once it has successfully cleared your cache and cookies.

IE 8:

  1. In the Tools menu, go to Internet Options
  2. Under the General tab, in the Browsing History section
    • Make sure that Temporary internet files, cookies, and history are checked
    • Click the Delete button

IE 7:

  1. In the Tools menu, go to Internet Options
  2. Under the General tab, in the Browsing History section, click the Delete button

3. Check Browser Settings

  1. Click the Customize icon on the top right of the window
  2. Click the Show advanced settings link at the bottom of the window
  3. Click the Content settings button
    • Under Cookies, make sure that Allow local data to be set is checked
    • Under JavaScript, make sure that Allow all sites to run JavaScript is checked
    • Under Pop-ups, make sure that Allow all sites to show pop-ups is checked
    • Click OK
  4. Close the browser window and open a new one. Try to access a databse.
  1. Click the Firefox button on the top left of the window
  2. Click Options
  3. Under the Content tab, make sure that
    • Block pop-up windows is not checked
    • Enable JavaScript is checked
  4. Under the Privacy tab, make sure that
    • Accept cookies from sites is checked
    • Accept third-party cookies is checked
  5. Close the browser window and open a new one. Try to access a databse.

IE 9 and later:

  1. Click the Gear icon at top right
  2. Click Internet Options
  3. Under the General tab, in the Browsing History section
    • Click the Delete button
    • Make sure that Temporary internet files, cookies, and history are checked
    • Click the Delete button
  4. Under the Security tab, for Internet Security, click Custom level to enable
    • binary and script behaviors
    • run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
    • script ActiveX controls marked safe
    • Active scripting
    • Scripting of Java Applets
  5. Under the Privacy tab
    • Set privacy to Medium to allow cookies
    • turn off pop-up blocker
  6. Close the browser window and open a new one. Try to access a database.

IE 8:

  1. In the Tools menu, go to Internet Options

IE 7:

  3. Under the Security tab, for Internet Security, click Custom level to enable
    • run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
    • script ActiveX controls marked safe
    • Java VM premissions (for Medium safety)
    • Active scripting
    • Scripting of Java Applets
  4. Under the Privacy tab
    • set privacy to Medium to allow cookies
    • turn off pop-up blocker
  5. Close the browser window and open a new one. Try to access a databse.
