Database Access: Pop-Up Blockers

Pop-up Blockers

These can sometimes keep you out of a database. Some browsers have pop-up blockers. They can also be found in some toolbars you download from websites such as Yahoo, Google, and others. If you try to access a database and get a message about pop-ups being blocked, first check your browser setting:

   IE 8:

  • Click Tools in the top menu bar
  • Mouse over Pop-up Blocker
  • If you see Turn Off Pop-up Blocker, click it

   IE (earlier versions):

  • Click Tools in the top menu bar
  • Click Internet Options
  • Click the Privacy tab
  • Make sure Block Pop-ups is not checked

   Firefox:

  • Click the Firefox button at the top left
  • Mouse over Options, and then click Options
  • Click the Content icon
  • Make sure Block pop-up windows is not checked

   Chrome:

  • Click the Customize icon and then click Settings
  • Click the Show advanced settings link at the bottom of the window
  • Click the Content settings button
    • Under Pop-ups, make sure that Allow all sites to show pop-ups is checked
    • Click OK

For the various downloaded toolbars, look for the settings or preferences menu. If the toolbar includes a pop-up blocker, you should see a place to turn it off.
