Web Guides and Directories
Web directories help you find sites that have been selected by librarians and subject experts. They are helpful when you want to find sites on a particular subject or interest, as opposed to searching for a specific fact or piece of information.

Beyond the Free Web
The Internet is a powerful tool for creating and accessing information, but much online information requires a subscription or is located within databases and hidden from search engines. Web-based information that must be purchased is part of what is often called the proprietary or restricted web. Information located within databases, which can only be retrieved with specific searches in those databases, usually is referred to as the hidden, invisible, or deep web.
Class assignments and sophisticated information needs that require the use of scholarly resources rarely can be satisfied by the free web alone. Find subscription research databases, online journals, ebooks, and traditional library materials through the library's subject guides and course guides.
